  8What Your Betsy Button Does
  9================
 10
11Your Betsy Button is part of a group of buttons. When anyone in your
12group presses their button, all the buttons in that group will light
13up green for 24 hours. If no button in the group has been pressed for
14over 24 hours, the lights will turn red.
 15
16It's a simple way to know if someone in your group has "checked in"
 17recently!
 18
 19How to Use Your Button
 20=================
 21
22Make sure your button is plugged in. Use a USB-C cable to connect it
23to a power source (like a phone charger or a computer USB port).
 24
25Press the physical button on your device. This will send a signal to
26the server, letting everyone in your group know you've "checked in."
27You should try to press your button at least once a day, but you can
28press it as many times as you like! Putting it by the refrigerator is
29a good way to remind yourself to check in at mealtime.
 30
 31
 32Understanding the LED Colors
 33=========================
34The tiny light on your Betsy Button tells you what it's doing:
 35
 36Pulsing Green
37: Your button successfully contacted the server, and the group status
38 is active. This is what you want to see!
 39
40Flashing Red (with short black breaks)
41: The server indicates that no one in your button group has checked in
42 for over 24 hours, or there was no new activity detected. This is
43 the "idle" or "expired" state.
 44
45Flashing Cyan (light blue, with short black breaks)
46: Your button is trying to connect to your Wi-Fi network. This usually
47 happens when it first powers on or if it loses its connection.
 48
49Quick Green flashes followed by Cyan (after you press the button)
50: You just pressed the button, and it's attempting to send your
51 check-in signal to the server.
 52
53Flashing Yellow and Black (when first plugged in)
54: Your button is starting up and loading its initial configuration.
 55
56Cycling through Red, Yellow, Cyan, and Blue
57: This indicates an error during communication with the server (e.g.,
 58 the server isn't reachable, or there's a problem with the Wi-Fi
59 connection that isn't just "connecting"). See the "Troubleshooting"
 60 section below.
 61
 62Dim White
63: Your button is in programming mode, and needs to be rebooted.
 64
 65
 66
 67Troubleshooting
 68==============
 69
70Flashing Cyan for more than a minute or two
 71----------
 72
73Your Betsy Button cannot find a wireless network.
 74
75This could be caused by your wireless network changing,
 76or your wireless password changing.
 77
78Take it back to the person who gave it to you,
 79for reprogramming.
80Be sure to bring them a screen shot of your wireless network and password.
 81
 82
83Flashing Yellow and Black for more than a few seconds
 84---------
 85
86Your Betsy Button has forgotten its configuration,
 87and needs to be reprogrammed.
 88
89Take it back to the person who gave it to you,
 90for reprogramming.
91Be sure to bring them a screen shot of your wireless network and password.
 92
 93
94Solid, unchanging color (red, yellow, cyan, blue, or dim white)
 95---------
 96
97This typically indicates an error where the button is stuck or
98encountered a problem it can't recover from on its own.
 99
100Try resetting your button by unplugging it from power, waiting
1015 seconds, and then plugging it back in. This will restart the device
102and often resolves temporary issues.
103
104
105Button doesn't light up at all
106--------------
107
108Ensure it's securely plugged into a power source.
109
110The button might need to be reprogrammed. If you have access to the
111programming interface, you can try that, or contact the person who set
112up your button.
113
114If you continue to experience issues after resetting, please contact
115the person who provided you with the Betsy Button for further
116assistance.
