A lot of public interest has arisen in the last decade on the inventors behind new technologies: Tesla and Vail come to mind. But as an inventor myself, I think it's important not to lose sight of the crucial role businessmen (Westinghouse and Morse) play in promoting a new technology.
I am *terrible* at promotion: I have no interest in it. As a result, many of my inventions never make it anywhere. For me, the fun is in creating the thing. When people start using it, usually that's at best a distraction, and at worst a killjoy. For this reason, I rarely bother trying to promote my work.
Occasionally, as with Vail (this project), someone will stumble across something I made and start doing the promotion for me. That's the only way a project like this is ever going to gain popularity, and I wish people who took on this role got more credit for their hard work.
